First off, the goal for the fundraiser was to raise $500 from washing cars off of Yorba Linda Blvd. That's equivalent to 100 cars, and if you really count them, that's a lot. Starting at approximately 12:00 PM, we started washing cars. Our first car was Taylor Pham's white Mercedes that sparkled like new after our careful wash! After that, cars just started pouring in, and at around 1:00, we had no choice but to make two lanes! No one complained though, and the Mustangs worked twice as hard to finish washing all the cars! On the side, there were hot dogs for sale, and a nice lounge area in the shade! Over on Yorba Linda Blvd, Mustangs were waving people in by the handful, and the end results certainly showed that. Overall, the experience was new and of course, lots of fun! 100 degree weather and water mixes quite well. After our last car, a purple BMW, the team packed up and went home satisfied - a good reason to be too. In total, we raised $990, almost double of what we had expected to get! What more could we ask for? Looking forward to a second car wash with the Mustangs!

6:40AM The guys are about to go on a 10 mile run today. The girls are reportedly doing 8 and 9 miles. This run will differ from all others due to the fact that the run actually starts from the cabins and won't require a car ride! Talk about a wake up call!
9:30AM The mileage for the guys was 10, and the mileage for group one of the girls was also 10. The other group of girls did 9. That marks the last long run up in Big Bear for 2011!
1:00PM The activity for today is bobsledding! Let's see how that one goes!
5:00PM We return from our last afternoon run of the trip! Total miles for today: 13 miles for the girls and 14 miles for the guys!
7:30PM We're heading out to go bowling at the bowling barn! Maybe we can go laser tagging afterwards? Who knows? It's our last day in Big Bear!

9:30PM After waiting for over half an hour, we got all of the necessary lanes to go team bowling! Coach Santana rocked the second round with a cumulative score of 189! Go Santana! Now it's time for delicious root beer floats!

6:20AM Half of the team is still sleeping past the 6:00 wake up time, but we'll head out at 7:00 to run Gray's Peak. The run will be a 7 mile run that features an incline of 3.5 miles that leads all the way to the top.
10:30AM Both teams conquered Gray's Peak and are now relaxing in their cabins. Pancakes and fruit was for breakfast! Team meeting soon!
12:30PM Team meetings adjourned and both the girls' and the guys' teams are looking forward to a wonderful season.
5:00PM Tonight, we're having pizza for dinner! With a side of watermelon, our favorite!
6:00PM Our movie night begins as we watch I am Legend in the guys' cabin. The suspense was captivating and the to-be-run after is an exciting change.
8:00PM The team heads out for the night run!
9:30PM The run was a success and was quite the shocker! The boys ambushed the girls in the dark, while the girls tried to get revenge on Meghan at the end of the run! Everyone had glow sticks, but the run was still pitch dark, and full of fun.

10:54AM We just finished breakfast and the boys ran 7 miles this morning. The girls, 8 miles, and 7 miles. At 11:30, the team will be heading out to the lake to kayak.
1:30PM The team came back from the lake from a refreshing kayaking session! Coach Miller got capsized by Kevin Clack and Jared Rucker! Congrats!
4:00PM The girls and the guys embarked on a fast-paced 4 mile run around the cabin on Big Bear streets.
6:00PM Both the boys and girls teams travelled to a local park where they enjoyed volleyball, soccer, football, a bag race, tug of war, a nice barbeque, and S'MORES!

3:13 PM We just arrived at big bear about three hours ago, but just got to the cabin thirty minutes ago. The guys completed a 7 mile run after the car ride, and the girls completed a 5 mile run. The day was hot and the hills were tough!
Picture
5:34 PM The plan for the Big Bear trip is to have a competition between all of the runners! There are currently five teams and the competitions will include endurance, strength, and logic!
8:28 PM Athletes are relaxing in the cabins. The girls are watching a chick flick movie, while the guys are playing cards and singing to Kevin Clack's strumming!

Relay for Life 2011 was truly one to remember. We went into the event with Coach Curt Kisner and Christine Stevens in mind and we carried that through the 24 hour event that started on August 5th. The relay cannot be described in one word, but there's no need for that. We have compiled the reactions and comments from the editors of the site that attended the event and here's what they have to say:

Franco Chen

Upon arrival at around 3PM, the campsite was as lively as ever. I didn't have to put up any tents so I lucked out on having to help out! What I brought to the event was a three piece cardboard box plane that broke into a million pieces, a laptop, a sweater, an extra shirt, two bottles, sunglasses, toothbrush, deodorant, a book, my lap costume, and my camera! So here's what I remember from Relay for Life 2011.

Our team (Cross Country Cancer Crushers) set out to be the most spirited team out there. In the end, we actually were the most spirited team. Our cheers, shouts, and roars of enthusiasm can be heard all throughout the 24 hour event and we pushed on through complaints and compliments. We won the Miss Relay competition because we had our lovely Jennifer (Jared) Rucker! I believe the amount that he raised was in the $190s range. Bear in mind, ladies and gentlemen, that's $190 in fifteen minutes!

Our team soon became the most notable one as team members would walk around with our cardboard box plane, Air Survivor, "flying" through the laps. Oh yeah, we won that competition also. Easy win! I will never forget that moment when the crowd cheered on Air Survivor to its greatest flight! The really neat thing is that on the wings of the Air Survivor, we actually had survivors sign their names. The airplane soon became a crowd favorite as it would get lovely comments from all around.

What I remember from throughout the night wasn't much, but I remember pulling a chair to the leftovers table and eating leftover pizza. Then there was the time where we practiced our frisbee throwing techniques at night and we ended up hitting several sleeping people with it.

The next day saw to a HOT HOT HOT morning! Good thing the Yorba Linda Water District truck was right next to us! Despite the fun, I was tired. Really tired. So if you're thinking about doing Relay for Life next year, please do think and I hope that you do participate! It's a really cool experience and the whole 24 hours just feels like a bonding experience. Start early with the fundraising ideas! Our team is probably going to set our goal to raising the most money and being the most spirited!

The newly added Mustangs Webcam Feed is located as a link under the page, "Talk." What this live video feed will do is to share the experience of an event with other runners. One example would be the Big Bear High Altitude Training Camp. While runners up in Big Bear run, eat, sleep, and interact, when the live video feed is on, other runners can watch what's going on. There can be a question and answer session along with an interview or maybe even a tour of the cabins and surrounding areas. This is new feature and events will be posted when available. Future events so far is Big Bear High Altitude Training Camp, starting August 14th. Tune in to check out the Mustangs up in big bear!

This year for Relay for Life, our cross country team has two official teams. Team names are Cross Country Cancer Crushers One, and Cross Country Cancer Crushers Two. They are lead by Francesca Vaccaro and Amanda Stevens, respectively.

For those who have raised $100, he/she will get a Relay for Life T-shirt and along with that, will also be allowed to stay for the remainder of the 24 hour event. That brings us to our goal for the event. Simply, our goal is to be the most spirited team this year. We can do this by showing endless enthusiasm as we walk the laps and also by making our presence known by doing our jobs well. This year, we'll be remembering Curt Kisner, and we'll be honoring Christine Stevens.
